Green houses and bugs
My grand-daughters bought me this green house on a suggestion from their mother.  This is wonderful for small plants or starting leaves and would you believe that it was found at Regals?
I don't know if  they have these stores in USA but we have one here in Thunder Bay.   It used to be something like AVON .... sold from door to door.  They had everything you could imagine from calking to cards and wrapping paper.
  Bugs,  bugs, bugs .....
This is my favourite way of looking after bugs like spider mites  (I have never had them in my african violets thank goodness)  or Springtails (I have often bought them in the soil).
I have had thrips and I swear after this treatment they are a thing of the past.  One now and another in approximately  three weeks to get the babies from the first lot.
I take a plastic bag and set the plant in the bottom of the bag,  Ninette opens the bag for me,  and holds it while I spray the inside of the bag, not the plant. I am very generous with the spray.
When I pull the spray from the bag.  I close it up tight and knot it so there is no air escaping from it. I leave it for 24 hours and then remove the bag.
I take a spray bottle with soap and water solution and spray the plant generously, then rinse.

I keep it in an area away from my other plants. Then repeat the whole procedure in three weeks.

Frank,  (below)  has had terrific results and didn't have to repeat the procedure.  This would be wonderful for those who are showing their violets!

There is a discussion on VioletReflections about the above method of  ridding their plants of  bugs.  Here are some testimonials from those who have tried it.   Many thanks to Frank Schlicht for refining this method here is his testimonial  and a description on how he used that information to his own advantage.   Much neater and therefore much more convenient.

I am hoping to hear from someone who tried it for foliar mealy bugs.   Dare I hope it will do good with the soil mealy too?

Rob's Lucky  Penny  July 15

This is a cream container passed out with coffee or tea.

I ordered this one from Rob's in May/04.   I wanted some chimera's and couldn't find them in Canada.  So I spent a lot of money when you consider the exchange.  I ordered about 5 chimera's. Then fell in love with Rob's Lucky Penny   I paid  $20.00 American for this little guy.  Ironic the order arrived here in good shape but this fellow started dropping leaves within just a  couple of days and they continued to drop until there was nothing left except one little leaf. I lifted it out of the pot. Shook all the soil off and put it in vermiculite.  One teeny leaf  grew and the big one immediately fell off.   Now this is all I have.  This and the leaf that fell.  I am trying to root it but ??????
Here are a couple of  Streps.  I was given
I have never had a strep before so a lady brought me over a leaf .  She had sliced through the big vein lengthwise and told me to set it  in  the vermiculite. She told me to sort of lightly cover the cut edge (the vein)  so here is my start with streps.  I did order a yellow one from Rob's  too. Name of  plant is
Oh and I had ordered another plant but it was out of stock.  Janet Stromburg sent me a cutting once long ago  and it grew quite nicely for me but I did eventually lose it.  I was so very disappointed.  I just loved it.  the name?  Espisica Pink Satin  Rob's  had it but when my order came up in que he had already sold out.  I will search and search and search  until I  find another.
